About NetWage
NetWage turns a gross salary into take-home pay for employees in United Kingdom, Canada, Australia, Ireland, New Zealand. Each country has its own calculators built on that country's current tax year.
Where the numbers come from
Tax bands, allowances, social insurance and student loan thresholds are taken from the tax authorities' own publications: HMRC and GOV.UK, the Scottish Government, the Canada Revenue Agency and provincial finance ministries, the Australian Taxation Office, Revenue (Ireland) and Inland Revenue (New Zealand). Each calculator lists the rates it uses under “Rates used”.
How results are calculated
Calculations use annual amounts for the tax year shown, as if the salary were earned evenly over the year. Payroll systems work pay period by pay period, so a single payslip can differ slightly, especially in the first months after a pay change. Tax credits that depend on your household, benefits in kind and other income are not included unless the calculator asks for them.
Updates
Rates were last checked on 2026-10-27. New tax years are added when the official figures are published (UK in April, Australia and New Zealand in July and April, Canada and Ireland in January).
Limitations
NetWage is an independent site and is not affiliated with any government. It does not give personal tax advice; for that, use your tax authority's own tools or a qualified adviser.
