Who gets which rate

  • National Living Wage: workers aged 21 and over.
  • 18 to 20 rate: workers aged 18 to 20. The government plans to merge it into the National Living Wage.
  • Apprentice rate: apprentices under 19, or 19 and over in the first year of their apprenticeship.

Employers must pay at least these rates for every hour worked, including training and some travel between jobs. Deductions for uniforms or accommodation above set limits can bring pay below the minimum, which is not allowed.
