Yearly pay = hourly rate × hours a week × 52. Many full-time jobs in Ireland are 39 hours a week, which makes 2,028 paid hours a year. Above €44,000 a year (about €21.70 an hour at 39 hours) a single person pays 40% income tax on the extra.

Part-time hours

Short hours change the picture. Earn €352 a week or less and no employee PRSI is due; between €352.01 and €424.00 the PRSI credit applies. Under €13,000 a year there is no USC, and a single person's tax credits cover income tax on the first €20,000.

The minimum for adults is €14.15 an hour from 1 January 2026 (see the minimum wage calculator).

FAQ

How many working hours are in a year?

At 39 hours a week, 2,028 (39 × 52). At 40 hours, 2,080.

Is overtime taxed more?

No. Overtime is taxed at your normal rates. Income tax and USC are worked out on a cumulative basis, so any cut-off point left unused from earlier in the year is used up before the 40% rate applies. PRSI is charged on each week's pay.

What is €18.00 an hour a year?

€36,504 at 39 hours a week, which is €31,028 a year after tax, USC and PRSI for a single person.
